Colombo (singhalesisch: Kolamba) ist die Hauptstadt der Inselrepublik Sri Lanka zählt etwa 600.000 Einwohner und liegt am Fluss Baira Lake.

Vor etwa 500 Jahren siedelten Menschen aus Holland, Portugal und England an der Küste. Der Regierungssitz des Landes befindet sich dagegen seit 1982 in Sri Jayawardhenapura im Einzugsbereich Colombos.

Das Büro- und Geschäftsviertel heißt "Fort", wo auch das alte Parlament steht. Eine wichtige Sehenswürdigkeit ist die Independence Hall, die 1946 errichtet wurde. Im Jahre 1948 wurde die Unabhängigkeit von Sri Lanka erklärt.
