CHRP

CHRP (engl. "Chirp") ist die Abkürzung für "Common Hardware Reference Platform". Eine andere Bezeichnung ist "PowerPC Platform" (PPCP).

CHRP ist die Sammelbezeichnung für eine Hardware-Plattform, mit der Apple, IBM und Motorola seinerzeit auf Basis der Technologie der RS/6000 Mini-Computer einen Standard für PPC-basierte Desktop-Rechner etablierten wollten.

Apple, Hersteller der PowerMacs hat sich aufgrund von markttechnisch-strategischen Überlegungen inzwischen wieder von dieser Plattform entfernt. CHRP-kompatible Clones von Apple Macintosh-Rechnern sind daraufhin vom Markt verschwunden.

Mit dem Pegasos von Genesi und dem wiedererstarkenden LinuxPPC verfügen IBM und Motorola (inzwischen: Freescale) nun jedoch wieder über eine schlagkräftige Referenzplattform für den PowerPC.
