Christiana von Georgien

Die heilige Christiana von Georgien (* in Kappadokien † um 330 in Bodke (Georgien), auch Nino (georgisch ნინო), Nona oder im alemannischen Raum Chrischona, gilt als Apostolin von Georgien.

Sie war eine aus Kappadokien stammende christliche Sklavin beim Stamm der Iberer in Georgien. Von Rufinus wird überliefert, dass sie ein krankes Kind durch Gebet geheilt habe, worauf die unheilbar erkrankte Königin Nana sie ebenfalls um Heilung bat. Auch die Königin wurde durch Christianas Gebet geheilt und bekehrte sich. Der König Mirian II. blieb jedoch beim Glauben an seine Stammesgötter. Als er jedoch einige Zeit später in Todesgefahr geriet, betete er ebenfalls zu "Ninos Gott" und wurde gerettet, worauf auch er sich bekehrte. Er sandte zu Kaiser Konstantin und bat um Priester, um sein Volk zu lehren und zu taufen.

Nachdem Christiana bei der Bekehrung von Georgien mitgeholfen hatte, zog sie sich zurück und verbrachte den Rest ihres Lebens als Einsiedlerin.

Es gibt zahlreiche mehr oder weniger glaubwürdige Legenden über ihr Wirken, aber ihre Existenz und ihr Wirken bei der Christianisierung von Georgien gelten als historische Tatsachen.

Christiana ist die Schutzpatronin von Georgien, ihr Gedenktag ist der 15. Dezember
